Email from Pres. Jordan

We got word last night that Elder Lawrence was back in the hospital.  This is the email we received from his mission President today...

Elder Lawrence is much improved this morning. He had a hard time getting to sleep, but when he finally got a good rest, he was much better.

I thought he might have needed something last night to help him sleep. Neither the hospital nor the Church Area medical doctor wants to give him any more medication because of the toxicity problem he experienced last week, and he has done ok without it. He is still a little confused from some of the apparent effects of the drug reaction (some irrational thoughts), but he is working his way through it.

Blood analysis and EKG were normal last night. I am sending all medical information that I have and can transfer by email shortly. He will be carrying xray, sonogram, and fluorsopy studies.

Just had a long conversation with him and explained Church policy that when a missionary is going to be out of commission or on limited duty for more than two weeks, he is sent home to recuperate. In cases where the missionary has more than 6 months left on his mission, he can come back after he recuperates. In Elder Lawrence' case, he is two months from wrapping up, so he will not return to the mission. Naturally, he is very disappointed. He has worked very hard as a missionary and was looking forward to working one more transfer. He has served his mission fully and should be accorded the reception, honor and appreciation as any other missionary who returns honorably.

Thank you for your support. We will continue to update you as much as we can, and then follow up when he is home.

June 4, 2014

I just want to let you all know what is going on with Elder Lawrence this week.  I got a phone call yesterday from Sis. Jordan (The Mission President’s wife), she let me know that Bryson was admitted to the hospital in Tampico on Saturday May 31st.  Bryson had been feeling very sick and couldn’t eat or drink anything without throwing up.  He became extremely dehydrated.  In the hospital he received medication to kill all the parasites in his body and IV fluids to get him rehydrated. He stayed in the hospital for 3 days and was released on Tues. June 3rd.  I was able to talk to Bryson yesterday and he sounded really good.  He said he was feeling so much better and was ready to leave the hospital and get back to work.  He was so grateful to his good Mission President and his wife who spent a lot of time with him in the hospital.  His companion had been there with him the entire time also and many people from the ward came to visit him.
Please keep Bryson in your prayers that he will be able to stay healthy and continue to be free of those nasty parasites.

Hi family...
Wow sounds like you guys had such a super busy week. Dang it’s crazy how the time flies. I don’t know why I feel so many emotions…It’s weird. But with all these emotions that I feel….they are good, but it makes it hard for me to eat. I try to eat the food but it’s like my stomach won’t let me eat... at times I throw up after eating. What do you recommend that I do? Don’t worry or anything, it’s nothing serious…because I can eat in the house with no problems at all.

That’s awesome about your new calling mom.  I am super pumped for you. Just like you, I also received a new calling. I will be the new District Leader. They shut down Miramar 2. It now is just Miramar 1. I had to change my apartment and everything. So now I am in Miramar 1.  The area is super big…it’s so so big!!!  My new companion has like 5 months in the mission. His name is Elder Ortega. So we are pretty much opening this area up…because I don’t know much of this side of Miramar where I am at.  I know I cannot do this without the help of the Lord. I am going to rely on him every step of the way to guide me to success here. We have like 14 baptism dates right now, and really like 10 of them I know will get baptized. I am super excited for this new adventure…it will be crazy! But I also know the Lord wouldn’t give me any job that I can’t handle. I am super excited to work here and to see the progress here.  I am a little nervous and stressed also…but I get that from you mom;) haha jk.  With prayer and faith I know we can do anything.

Thanks dad for the advice. I will definitely put goals for the future. I have so much going on in my head, it’s super awesome. There is going to be so much work here. I know that this time is just going to fly by so fast and I can’t believe it.

I’m excited for you guy’s, sounds like you have a lot of fun stuff planned for this summer. I just want to finish the mission giving it my all…to the best of my ability and that is what I am going to try to do. I know I will be able to learn the area with my companion and that we will be able to have the spirit to teach the truth to all that is willing to hear it. This church is true.  CTR all day everyday. I love you guys so much! Have a great week!!!

May 19, 2014 (3 months to go!!!)

Hello family...
I hope everything is going really good for you all. For us here in Miramar it is going pretty good. We are trying to have more lessons with members so that is our goal that we are working on this week. This last week we had 4 investigators go to church. They don’t have baptism dates right now…but they will have baptism dates soon. We love seeing the progress and the hand of the Lord here in this area. He has really helped us every step of the way. We are looking forward to this last semana, we want to finish this last week working super hard. We would really like to find more investigators that are willing to open their hearts. We are thankful for the investigators that we are teaching and their progress. We love seeing the progress here in Miramar. The spirit is good.

That’s so awesome that Blake graduated from seminary. He is a stud. Ethan looked so good in his photo when he was rocking out on the piano. He will get all the ladies.  Good for him haha.

Time is really flyin by fast.  Especially now that we have investigators progressing. This next change we are hoping to have 4 baptisms. I’m pumped. I hope your week is awesome! I love you all so much. The work of the Lord is great.  Love you all, bye adios.

Hola familia…
How is everyone doing? I hope super duper great!!!!  This week was pretty good. It seemed to go by super fast. We had some activities in the church. We had a night of talents and there were a lot of new investigators there. It was great to see and feel the spirit of everyone there. This last week our investigators that were progressing didn’t go to church, so that was sad. Elder Antuna and I are trying to find new investigators that will have the chance to progress in the gospel and this last week one came to church. She was invited by another member who is her friend. So we are going to start teaching her. I am pretty excited about that. The work is going good.

It was super great to talk with the family this week. I loved every minute of it. I was so glad to see that everyone is happy that is what is way important. It is like a dream when I talk to you guys and then we stop skyping and the dream ends. Haha that is kinda sad…but it’s all good because 3 short months and I’ll be home.  I can’t believe that!!! I’m still super pumped about the work that I have here for the Lord and I’m not going to lose my focus.

Yes, I know Elder Guzman! He was in Victoria when I was there. But he was in the other zone. That’s cool that Jeremy knows him in Peru haha.

This week we are going to have interviews with the President so that should be good.  So do you know what airport I will be flying into?  Who is the Stake President? Well it was super good to talk to you this last week. Love you all so much. The church is true!

Bye,
Elder Lawrence

HOLA FAMILIA...
This week was good…well every week is good when you have a good attitude. I have a strong testimony about attitudes. I know that as missionaries if we have a good attitude, success will come and the spirit will always be present. If we don’t have a good attitude then we won’t have the spirit or the love or energy it takes to be a missionary.

Elder Antuna is a great missionary.  I like working with him we get along super good. This week we had 16 less actives that went to church... so that number is good. But what we are kinda having a hard time with right now is investigators. We have two investigators that have been progressing, Rosy and Gorge. This last week they did not attend church. So that was pretty sad for Elder Antuna and me but this family is really special and you can tell that the Lord has prepared the corazon to this family. I wish they would have tried harder to go to church...but everyone has their chance to choose right. Their faith in Jesus has really grown since we taught them.

The other day we contacted a man named Eduardo. He is awesome and I know that he will definitely do what it takes to get closer to God and perserverar hasta el fin. He was so prepared for us. He practically contacted us.

I’m glad to be a missionary in this time…the work is great. We can definitely see the progress here in Miramar. I feel like the people are always so receptive to us haha but I don’t know if it’s just because I look at everything as good. There is no bad and if there is I usually don’t see it, Everything we do happens for a reason and is part of the plan of God. I have had so many awesome experiences and have grown so much. Spiritually like physically also. Actually I think I’m a little taller but I don’t know. I’m also a little skinnier haha I think. I’m so thankful that I have the best family ever!  I love all of you so much. I’m thankful for the example of every one of you.

I am super excited to talk to you all this week in skype. So I will talk to you guys at 12 in the 10 de may. Can you believe I will be talking to you guys this week? Wow so crazy!! I hope I can find a computer that is really fast so I can hear every word of you guys haha. I have faith that I can.

Blake’s suit is super chill, I like it a lot.  So I will be living in the King Henry halls then? Sounds tight!!! Well, I love you all so much. I hope you have a great week. Remember to read the scriptures, say your prayers and go to church. hehe. loves yall.

What’s up family!!!
We are doing super good out here in Mexico. It’s supah hot, really hot!! Like I leave the house and I start sweating. Super hot and really humid!!! But I really like my area a lot…it’s awesome. We have got so many new families that we are teaching…it’s bomb!!!

One of our investigators went to church this last Sunday and she seemed super happy to be there. I know that she really felt the spirit. Her name is Rosy. She also has a husband named Gorge.  Gorge didn't go to church this Sunday but he will definitely for sure go this next Sunday.  Some other investigators that we have went on vacation, so for that they did not go to church.  His name is Victor and Jose.  Victor likes to drink...but we are helping him with that.  He won't like drinking for long.  We had 4 investigators in church this last Sunday so we were really happy about that.

I feel really blessed to be in this area. The spirit is so strong here and I know that we will see so much progress here.  Like this last week we had about 16 families show up to church. These families that showed up are less actives.  They are some of the families that we are teaching. It felt so good to watch the chapel start to fill up. I know that the work that we are doing here will truly bless the lives of these families.

I’m so grateful to be a part of this work. I seriously can’t believe how fast the time is going though. It’s really crazy. I just have to stay strong and enjoy and love this last part of my mission. I love all the experiences that I have had and keep having. I really feel like I have grown so much spiritually…maybe not in my height but definitely spiritually. I know I will continue to keep growing if I do my part and do what the Lord wants... I love Mexico and I love the people here. I also love my family so much... thank you all for everything you do for me! Have a great week!!!

April 21, 2014 (4 Months to go!)

Hello my family that I love so much!!!!!!!!!
How is it going?????? Sounds like your guy’s weekend was awesome…fun filled and full of adventure! Hahahaha that story is so funny that you sent mom! That really could be like an episode from “The Middle” or something haha that’s super funny. That’s so good to hear that Nadia did really good on her farewell talk. She is professional!! She will be a super good missionary!

Dang... I can’t believe that you guys sold the little blue the car for only 300 bucks. That is sooo cheap... I hope you took off the pipe on the back and all the stuff for the speakers and the rims hahaha:)

So do you know where I am going to be living with Elder Rohde?? Has his mom said anything? I’m pumped haha.

So this last week was Easter? I didn’t even really know it. It did not seem like Easter at all. I didn’t even see one painted egg. Can you believe that? Soo sad…but what do ya do hehe.

So this last week was pretty fast. I am pretty sure these last cambios are just going to go by soaring flyin. This last week was super good... we actually didn’t have that many lessons because all of the lessons were fallin through. I am used to having a little bit more lessons because in Victoria none of the lessons fell through, we always had lessons... so it’s a little different…but the people are awesome here. The church is way beautiful. There is a good spirit here in the area so that is nice. We actually put two baptism dates this last week…but they did not show up to church this week.  So that was sad... but its okk. We are going to keep visiting them. Their names are Rosy and Gorge. We actually helped them change their whole house. We came in contact with them when we were walking the streets.

The bread here is pretty good…I’ve bought a little bit.  I’m really lovin it here!!! It will be a nice area to finish my mission. I have a good feeling that this is my last area. I’m excited!!! I know that the spirit is definitely with us here helping every step of the way.

Well, I love you guys so much. Can’t wait to skype with y’all soon:) It will be super fun!! Love ya bye…adios..

April 14, 2014

Hello Family...
I’m so glad to hear that you guys all have been keeping busy... and you are having success in your activities. It’s super cool to hear that Blake is tearin it up out there on the tennis court and that he will be going to prom here soon. It’s awesome that Ethan has been doing super good with his baseball team and that he is a boss when he pitches. Also that Kamrie is dancing and cheering up a storm. All the news is super good. I love it!!!

My news is good too, haha like always;). I got changed and I’m no longer in the Promised Land haha.  I’m now back in Tampico in a place called Miramar in the Zona Bosque.  I’m super pumped to be here! I can’t wait to meet and come in contact with all these new people. I know that these last months will be full of the spirit. My new companion seems pretty cool.  His name is Elder Antuna and he is from Mexico. He was actually in Victoria when I was first there. So I know him a little bit.

So wow I can’t believe I am all signed up for college and I’ve got my classes!  That is some really good news.  I’m super excited...but more than that I am excited because I am a missionary in this time. What a special time to be a missionary really. There is so much work and so much progress here that is just waiting on the hands of the Lord…which is us missionaries. We’ve just got to reach out to the people... who have little faith. Just like Jesus reached out. I know and have testimony that if we show the Lord our faith and our willingness to serve we will see the blessings and the fruits will come for our esfuerzos…actions.   I love the gospel. I love helping people learn the gospel and that is why I am here to help the people understand learn and put the gospel to work…especially with the families.

I love you guys all so much and I will see you all really soon…except for you Blake…you have to wait two more years.

Hello family….
It was really great to watch the General Conference.  I really got so much out of it.  Elder Quinones and I have been working good together…except every once in awhile we get mad at each other.  But we have learned how to control and fix that.  The spirit has been stronger with us lately.

I can’t believe how fast this cambio has gone.  I really have felt so many emotions here in Victoria.  I have learned and gained a lot of experience here.  I love it here!  My testimony has grown since I have been here.  I have seen the true faith of members be put to action.  We really have a great desire to help this branch out so much.  If we put our trust in the Lord I know we will see the blessings.  I think that is why Elder Quinones and I sometimes get mad at each…because we just want to help the ward out so much but we aren’t seeing anything happen.  But I know that someday all of our work will show.  Our numbers don’t look like much but we have been giving much service and shown a lot of love here.
Love you all so much….thanks for everything!!!!

Hello everyone…

Everything is going better!  I get along good with my companion…we haven’t had any problems at all.  This week we did have trouble getting new investigators.  It’s sad because I feel like we are really working hard but we don’t have any investigators to teach.  We did receive one new investigator that is really interested.  He went to church and we will be putting a baptism date with him this week.  So that is good news!  We were so thankful to have him to teach.  We were fasting that we would get a new investigator and we received one.

50 people attended church this week and we had about 15 less actives that attended.  So that number stayed about the same.  We are really praying and seeking progress.  We have faith that we will soon see the fruits of our work.

The baptism that we had last week went pretty dang good. It was  very spiritual. I didn't know her that well because we only taught her once.  Her name is Valetina and she is super quiet.  Im excited to tell you guys all my great experiencias when I get home... this is the best journey ever!!! You will like my stories.

I hope everything is really good.  Sorry this letter is a little short this time…but I love you all the same and I’m always praying for you guys.  Thanks for praying for me too!  See ya’ll soon.
     Love your Elder.

March 24, 2014

Hey.........
How is everyone?? It seems like you all have been so busy. I’m glad that at least you have a little bit of time to write me. Dad couldn’t have said it better in his email! I’m pretty glad that this last week is over. This last week was pretty hard. I received some very sad news. 3 elders that are really close to me have been sent home and that made me really sad. These 3 Elders are like brothers to me out here.  It’s like dad said, it’s just for those small things that turned into bigger things. I find it weird that mom sent me a photo of that scripture and dad in his letter also mentioned that. So this last week was a little more tough but I won’t let that change the work and the spirit here in the mission.

I can’t believe I will be seeing you guys in a little less than 5 months. I'm just going to make the best that I can out of my mission with this short time that I have left. The Lord has blessed us so much here and we are now blessed to be in charge of another area here in Victoria. Yes we are in charge of 2 areas…Central and Bicentenario. We will be having a bautismal this coming week for the Central area. So I guess that is cool right???

This last week was the Conference of the Stake and President Jordan was here. He gave a really good talk. He has a lot of love for us Elders. It was nice to have the Conference. We gave a blessing that same night in the area of Central. The spirit was super strong there. I was training a recent convert and mission leader how to do the blessing. It all turned out beautiful.  I hope the surgery went good for the baby.

We have about 4 investigators now and none of them are progressing. I feel blessed that at least we have investigators. Tomorrow we are going to get another.  He is a reference and they said that he is like gold.  So we shall find out.  I have esperansa confiansa y fe que si:) I love you all so much!  Have a great week.
   Love,

What’s up me familia...
How is everything goin with you guys?  Everything is going great here in Victoria. The time seems to keep flyin by so fast! So yeah, I can’t believe I lost my wallet. Well, I didn’t lose it... someone stole it. I accidently left it in the car of a member and they had it there ready to give to me but that night someone stole it.  So somebody is walking around with the picture of a white boy hahah.
So I got the package from G-ma. Tell her thanks for the cough drops and CTR rings. I also got the valentines package from you….thanks, the shirt is pretty awesome haha…I like it!
I didn’t know that Blake is playing on the tennis team!  Well that is pretty cool I guess.
The Rama Bicentenario is going really good! We have been working really hard here. But what is hard on us right now is that we do not have any investigators that are really progressing. We have contacted and searched many references. We’ve got now 3 investigators, and we have the faith that they will progress and make the choice to come unto Christ. This last week in church we had a good turnout. Lots of menos activos and recent converts went to church. The one thing that is missing in this Rama is the Priesthood. So this week we have the goal to focus on looking for old Priesthood holders and to find new investigators. We have been talking to everyone!!  We are really hoping that the spirit will be touching the hearts of everyone as well. All we do is follow the spirit because it’s impossible without the spirit.
Today we went to the zoo. It was pretty cool!  It was just a lot of animals like normal haha. I love you all so much!!  I hope that you guys have an amazing week!! God is with us.

March 10, 2014

Hey there everybody…
Wow how lucky are you guys!!! I wish I had the chance to go to Vegas with ya’ll.  Sounds like you guys had a great time there. I sure hope so!!  Seems like everything is going super good for all of you.  You guys are definitely receiving blessings…I know that for a fact!

So this last week has actually been pretty cold here in Victoria. My new Companion is Elder Quiñones and he got here last Monday night. He is super awesome!! We get along great! He is a little bit smaller than me and he likes to exercise.   We have been exercising every morning and night.  I’m going to get back looking like super man. Haha no that is not true….probably more like a Latino than anything else haha.  He is a really nice guy and a super hard worker. I really can feel the love that he has for me and the area. I’m really excited to be companions with him. I really hope that I will be able to learn a lot from him so we can help others come unto Christ.

This week we did a lot of searching for old investigators.  We found a couple of names that seem like the families are ready to accept the gospel and we were pretty grateful for that. We are still praying and hoping to find more. We have been talking to everyone and asking for references from everyone. We really want to get our group of people that we are teaching to 30 or more. We feel like it is definitely possible.

This week the attendance at church was not too great. It seems like the cold weather and rain was a little hard on the people in our area. But we did have a pretty good turnout with recent converts. I’m so thankful to be in an area where we have the help of the members and our Ward Mission Leader. The Visiting Teaching here is great also. There are 5 pairs of visiting teachers and everyone did their visits this week. We were happy about that.
I am excited to watch the progress this change.

So Elder Quiñones has about 15 months in the mission. So he knows what he is doing but I have been training him in the area all this week. We visited everybody......... we talked to so many people and taught some really spiritual lessons, it was awesome.  One family we taught is the Familia Camacho. The dad attended the lesson and he never attends…he usually leaves.  The lesson with him was so tight.  We put a goal with him to stop drinking and everything. So we will see how the progress goes with him. The work of the Lord is growing. The spirit is strong and it’s a beautiful thing to be a part of.

I am pumped for Nadia, BreAnn ... and that kid with the beard…. Blake or something like that haha. They will all be serving missions soon and that’s so awesome!  Blake should go up North with all the family and go through the temple because that was awesome! It’s great to hear how good everyone is doing and that Kamrie made dance team. Well I hope you all have a great week!  Love you all so much. Best family ever!!!

March 3, 2014

Hello,
Sounds like you guys had an awesome time at the cabin this last week! Wish I could have been there to spend the last time at the cabin with you guys…but the new cabin house is going to be super awesome too! I’m excited for that!!!

So yeah, Elder Montoya went home…he should be arriving at his house any moment now. Sooo crazy!  I’m definitely going to miss that guy. He was such a great missionary. He was full of emotions on his last day... sad, happy, nervous…all the emotions in one. So I will be staying here in Bicentenario!!! I’m super excited about that!!! I have become really close with everyone in this Rama. I really care about these guys here. My new companion will be Elder Quiones or something like that. He isn’t here with me yet but he should be getting here tonight. I’m looking forward to the next 6 weeks getting to know him and work with him. It’s always pretty tough when a good companion gets changed. I will miss being companions with Elder Montoya… but I’m sure I will have just as much success with my new companion.

We always have a pretty good turnout in church and this last week was no different. We had about 15 less active members show up to church. Right now we don’t really have any solid investigators. So that will be a great new goal for me and my new companion.

So guess what?  It is pretty cold here again. I kinda wish it would just stay hot haha.  I don’t like the cold to much…but it’s all good.

That’s pretty crazy that everyone in Blake’s grade is getting their mission calls.  That’s way exciting!

Well I’ve got to go because we are going to be pretty busy today.  Right now I’m with two other Elders and we will pick my companion up later.
I love you all so much!! Best family ever!! Have a great week!!:)

February 24, 2014

Hello my loves:)
Another week…it’s a little weird to think that in like 5 days my companion is going to be in his house back in Peru. It’s so crazy how fast the time goes in the mission.  Like when I was in my first area I remember seeing Elder Montoya with his companion and a couple other missionaries.  We yelled at them and they came over and played basketball with us. Little did I know that he would be my companion someday and now he is just about finished.

Well everything is going super duper dandy!  I got the chance to talk in church yesterday. We were sitting there all calm and stuff when they told me that the other person who was supposed to speak didn’t show up. They asked me if I had something ready and I told them I am always ready. Obviously I didn’t have anything. So I went and grabbed a Liahona and the first page that I turned to is what I talked on. It was good because it went perfectly with the other talks. So that was pretty cool haha.

Today in the morning we played dodge ball and soccer with the other zone here in Victoria... it was fun.  We are going to have a little party tonight. A member is having his birthday tonight and also we will be having goodbyes for Elder Montoya. We are planning on cooking a bunch of meat like carne asada and just eating. Then we as missionaries are going to do a little family night with this family. It’s the family Munoz who is in the photo I sent the other week where we were at their housing eating meat hahahaha. We love this family, they are the best! They also have a kid in the mission and so it makes them feel good to see us haha. We helped this same family last week also. We changed into our service clothes and we moved around their whole house.  Yeah, they moved and we moved everything for them in one day.  It was pretty tiring but I felt so good after and stronger. I love service the best. Service is the best type of work for me.

So next week I will tell you if I’m staying here in Victoria or leaving. I hope I stay because I sure do love it here!!!

Well, I love you all so much!  Have an excellent week, take care and keep the spirit strong! CTR all day every day…love you.

February 17, 2014 (6 months to go!)

Hello Everyone!!!
Another super fast week… Can’t believe it!! I hope everyone had a great Valentines Day…it sounds like you guys did.  This week was pretty good! The two people who were baptized got confirmed and received the Holy Ghost this last Sunday.  Also this last Sunday was the best attendance at church that we have seen since we have been here.  There were over 62 members who attended church and a lot of less actives.  It was great to feel the love and spirit of everyone.  It was really nice to see a full chapel.  This Rama has helped us out so much with the progress here.  Just about everyone that can is doing their Home Teaching…the difference is great!  We have been starting to see a unity with this Rama in the last couple of weeks…with the Family Home Evenings every Friday and the activities on Wednesday’s.  This Rama will soon be a Barrio, I’m sure.

We received some really good references this past week and we were really pleased and grateful for that! The work is going good! So yeah, I had my interview with President Jordan this last week and it went really good.  It was nice to see and get to talk to him.  I sure hope I don’t get changed either in this next change.  I really don’t think I will but you never know.

So I received your Valentines package…thank you so much!  In the next package do you think you could send some beef jerky?…haha there are a lot of people what would like to try it out.  I told them I would ask my mom to send me some hehe.  That’s sweet that I got accepted into UVU…that is some exciting news!  I’m glad that I don’t have to take the ACT test again.

So this last week we had a family night with a family and we invited two other families.  The family Tovar and a guy named Juan and his wife and kids.  We made so much meat…like steaks, chicken and carne asada.  It was soooo good.  Then we shared a message with everyone.  It was really fun and a good way to meet people.  We always have chances to share the gospel and that’s what’s good ya know…through all the little things…like it says in the scriptures.

We got 3 new investigators this last week and we will be putting a baptism date with them this upcoming week.  So I have hope that we will be having a baptism in March.  Almost everyone that we visit has returned to church…it’s so awesome!  We have been looking for new people to teach also. The Family Nadia, Leonardo, Mariana y Sol, Family Monica, Family Tovar, Family de Israel, Gladis, Guadlalupe, and Bryon, and more.  It is so great to see the spirit touch the lives of these loved people.  I love everyone of them.  I’m so thankful I have the chance to share with them what I know is true and to feel their love and spirit change again for the better!
